We would love to know, in your experience, what makes a great relationship?

The first time I went rock climbing I was told that although I may not be the most skillful climber, I was definitely the most entertaining! I think my friend was referring to my very vocal expressions of struggle and triumph! Anyway, the point I want to make is that communication and honesty are the foundation of any relationship... even if it is your relationship with the rock you are climbing!

Open and honest communication goes deeper than talking about household or social logistics! That is, talking about who is going to take the garbage out or what time you will be home from work doesn't count as the type of deep and intimate communication that creates quality relationships!

Asking quality questions when someone is talking about their day or situation will open up a deeper level of communication. For example, ask how they are "FEELING"!!! Yes, I know that might be a scary question for some... unchartered territory even! Be a pioneer! Or ask what they learned today... You know the saying "You learn something new every day"... Test the theory!

I think a lasting relationship needs just as much pragmatism as romance to work.

Be the person you need to be to create the relationship you desire!

Knowing what you want is not enough - making a list of how your perfect partner needs to be is an OK place to start.

Writing down the qualities that you want in a relationship is a better place to start...then deciding how you need to be to create that and then...committing to being that person!
